Are You Over Working Full Time Employees?
It’s all too easy to overlook the amount of overtime your salaried teammates are logging in because those extras hours aren’t tracked. And you can bet those team members who consistently pull more than 40-hour workweeks won’t complain.
However, they may be feeling overworked, exhausted and underappreciated. And it’s those hardworking, loyal people you need to hold on to. So regularly–and anonymously–survey your salaried workers to ensure that you’re not working them to death. Ask these four questions:
• Do we currently have enough manpower to handle our workload?
• Do you have to work longer than 40 hours per week in order to complete your duties?
• Do you feel that overtime is required for us to stay on top of things?
• Is the overtime you log in affecting your home life or health?
If the answers indicate a problem, you have three choices: hire more people, assign fewer projects–or pay them for all those extra hours. Otherwise, they may burn out and eventually take their outstanding work ethic elsewhere.
If effective communication is lacking in your organization, do something about it. Effective communication can mean the difference between retaining great employees or losing them out of oversight. Don’t wait until your best workers have burned out and seek appreciation elsewhere.Communication Briefings is a monthly source of ideas and techniques that helps you and your staff communicate more effectively in every situation — with employees, clients, everyone you meet.
