How To Become A Childminder
Would you like to become a childminder? In my opinion this is the perfect career choice for a young mother who is need of earning a little bit of extra money. It could be just a stop gap before returning to a main career or it could become a long term venture, I suppose it all depends on how much you enjoy it. In this article, I will be writing about the stages that are involved in becoming a childminder.
It can be quite a dilemma for a mother, they feel that they should return to work to help with the family finances but on the other hand do not want to leave their children with a childminder/nursery. Being able to stay at home with the kids and still earn money can be quite an exciting prospect. It hardly seems worth going to work at times when you have to pay so much money out in child care costs and again working from home could be the answer.
The first thing people who would like to become a childminder should do is to telephone their local Family Information Service (FIS). This will enable you to book onto a childminding registration briefing session. This session, which lasts for around two hours, will provide full information on what people have to do and the courses they will need to attend in order to become a registered childminder.
These are the courses that are recommended:
The paediatric first aid course
Business and marketing for childminders
Raising safeguarding awareness
These courses are likely to cost around ten pounds each to attend.
The final course is called the ICP course which stands for Introduction To Childminding Practices. This is a twelve hour course which is typically split into six weeks, the course fee is around £70-£80.
Ofsted will also visit your house to check it all over to enable them to decide how many children you will be able to look after and they will also carry out criminal record checks etc.
