Buying Individual Health Insurance
If you decide to start your own business or work on contract, you will need to consider your health insurance plan. Current rules do state that you can keep your old group health insurance plan for a period of time, but you may be in for some sticker shock! Most companies contribute a large percentage of the premium, but that contribution will be withdrawn for ex-employees. Instead of just paying your contribution, you will now have to pay the full amount. That is why some people will say that COBRA is expensive. That is not really a correct statement. COBRA is the law that allows you to keep your group health insurance, and what is expensive, is the entire premium for your health insurance!
