The Secrets To Prospering More And Struggling Less

Of all the strategies and methods that exist about getting ahead or making your next (or first) million, the one that is the most effective, the most valuable, and the least talked about is focus.

Having read the acclaimed book, The Power of Focus, I recently had the pleasure of meeting one of the authors, Les Hewitt. It had been a number of years since I read his book and listening to Les’ enchanting presentation reminded me of a few key principles I’ve followed to help me prosper more and struggle less.

Secret #1: Don’t Obsess Over Your Weakness

It takes far more work to focus on what you’re not good at versus your strengths. In fact, if you believe in the Law of Attraction, you know that what you think about you bring about. Therefore, if you spend a great deal of time obsessing over what you aren’t well versed in, you’ll attract people and circumstances that emphasize those shortcomings.

When Marilyn stopped focusing on the fact that she did not have an advanced degree she experienced immediate changes in her business. Before, she worried that as a leadership consultant to MBA holding CEO’s she would not have enough clout to gain their respect and attention.

By focusing on her real-world experience (her true strength) and leadership certifications she was able to stand more confidently in her power. The number of degrees she held was never an obstacle in her business. Her attitude towards it however, was. As soon as she focused on her strengths filling her calendar was a cinch.

Your Action Step: We all have innate strengths yet because we focus on what we can’t do, we never fully profit from what we can do. Starting right now, ask yourself what your core strengths and abilities consist of. And, are you leveraging those strengths in your business?

Secret #2: Capitalize on Your Natural Talents

When you identify a natural talent and design your brand, business and compelling proposition around those talents you’ll discover business growth happens for you with great ease.

Your innate talent is merely an aptitude that you are especially gifted at. Are you a natural at drawing, organization, listening to what people don’t say?

Karen possesses the incredible talent of making complicated things simple. She leveraged this talent as a positioning strength in her business, created a company name around it and now, makes the complicated and often convoluted information from the health and wellness industry easy to understand and apply.

Your Action Step: What are you natural talents? Do you have a knack for getting people to open up? Are you especially good at getting people motivated and moving into action? Begin monitoring those talents that come easily for you and like my client above, consider how you can leverage those talents in your business.

Secret #3: Just say No Thanks!

In the early stages of business growth, it is natural to keep yourself open to any and all opportunities that come your way. While this may seem a necessary business building strategy, it is one that will crush your success.

Saying ‘yes’ to every client or opportunity you’re presented with is a recipe for disaster. Why? Because no matter the cost, and no matter what stage of growth you’re in, you must always stay focused on your objective…the bigger picture. Failing to have a big picture view of your business puts you at risk of the ‘no problem’ syndrome.

Your Action Step: What is your business objective? Who do you wish to serve and how do you wish to affect them? What perception do you wish to create in the market about your business; size, profit, etc. These questions are the tip of the iceberg. Once you have a more clear big picture view of the direction you wish to take your business, you’ll use it to guide your decisions. When an opportunity presents itself that does not support your big objective, the only answer you can respond with is ‘no thank you.’
